The Low Down on Going Out

I’m writing blog posts in advance! Yay!

Having just finished my freshman year of college I have lots of advice for those starting that part of their journey. It’s a wondrous adventure of freedom, stress, and a heck of a lot of emails (ALWAYS check your inbox). One of the newer experiences I had was “going out”. Hopefully, you’ll have someone older to show you the ropes, but here are some things I learned along the way:

1.           No one really cares what you wear- unless it's you favorite shirt and you get spilled on or your outfit is risqué enough for other girls to look down their noses at.
2.          If you plan on going out get ready early- that way your hair and makeup are done, you can study while you wait, and then leave at a moment's notice when the Uber finally arrives.
3.          You should also prepare your room before you leave- no one knows what state you're coming home in tonight, so it's always handy to have your bed cleared, any shoes out of the way, and plenty of water bottles lined up (an empty trash couldn't hurt either).
4.        Sometimes you have to be willing to give up your night of fun for someone who's had a little too much- let your maternal instincts kick in and go get some water for the random girl or friend that's hanging her head over the toilet. It'll be much appreciated and you never know who will do the same for you.
5.          Use the buddy system- no matter how safe you are or think you are, it can never hurt. Also, it’s no fun to dance without your best friends by your side!

Obviously, most of this advice applies to girls. College guys are not people I pretend to understand at this point in my life. Also, none of these tips should condone underage drinking. Yet, it’s understandable that there is a lot of freedom in college and people may party however they please.

Also, (the mom in me is coming out) whatever you choose to do be safe and stay out of trouble!
